Is your home well maintained?
Home maintenance is important, yet often over-looked. Your home is an investment and needs regular maintenance to keep it safe and functioning properly.
Maintaining your home will help prevent costly breakdowns in the future.
All homes are different and have different operating systems. Not everything in this list will apply to every home.
This guide is a good start to help maintain your home.
Quarterly
- Change HVAC air filters
- Change water filter
- Clean kitchen disposal
- Test smoke/carbon dioxide detectors
- Test GFCI outlets
- Clean faucet aerators and shower heads
- Walk around outside of house and look for issues - siding, downspouts, etc.
Yearly
Interior
- Clean dryer vent duct
- Clean kitchen exhaust fan filter
- Inspect fire extinguishers
- Flush hot water heater, test pressure relief valve
- Test sump pump
- Clean bathroom exhaust fans
- Clean refrigerator coils
- Test water supply valves
- Clean drain traps in sinks, tubs and showers
Exterior
- Test garage door auto-reverse function
- Clean gutters
- Check roof for damage, tree limbs, etc
- Trim shrubs and limbs off house and roof
- Clean chimney
- Check window screens
- Check well head insulation
- Clean HVAC unit - trim back grass and bushes
This is not a complete list, but it’s a great start. Completing these will help make sure your home is on it’s way to being well maintained.
